Colorful Cannabis Varieties

Novice and experienced users alike are often drawn in by buds that display eye-catching bag appeal. With amber trichomes contrasting against violet calyxes, colorful cannabis varieties are as pleasant to gawk at as they are to smoke.

Chlorophyll is the pigment that gives cannabis its signature green shade. It also plays an essential role in the process of photosynthesis by absorbing energy from sunlight.

But some colorful cannabis plants also create other chemical compounds known as anthocyanins. These water-soluble pigments can produce a variety of shades in plants, including red, blue, purple, black, and gold.

Anthocyanins are part of a larger group of flavonoids that serve a wide range of functions for plants. They are said to offer UV protection, defend against certain microorganisms, and help regulate plant development. Anthocyanins also may be beneficial to humans by targeting free radicals and reducing oxidative stress.

Some cannabis plants display exotic colors in response to stressors, while others do so regardless of the environmental conditions. Growers often try to coax their plants into turning purple by exposing them to cool temperatures, pH swings, and other mild stressors.

At Greenpoint Seeds, we offer a diverse selection of cannabis varieties that are rich in anthocyanins. With dazzling cultivars such as Purple Punch and Animal Cookies, you’ll be sure to find an array of colorful phenotypes. Shop our collection of regular and feminized cannabis seeds today.
