GMO x Animal Cookies
Woke Smoke is the stuff of dreams. This premium feminized hybrid brings together two of the most prized Cookies varieties—GMO and Animal Cookies—to create an elite cultivar that is potent, frosty, and incredibly pungent. Woke Smoke produces an array of Cookies-dominant phenotypes that any cannabis connoisseur will love.
GMO, also known as GMO Cookies or Garlic Cookies, is one of the most talked-about strains to emerge in recent years. Many growers and users maintain that GMO is one of the most potent and aromatic cultivars on the market. Animal Cookies, in turn, is known for its exceptional resin production, exotic flavor, and narcotic effects. By crossing these two strains, Greenpoint Seeds has created Woke Smoke—a top-tier hybrid that offers the aroma and potency of GMO, and the exceptional bag appeal of Animal Cookies.
Woke Smoke Strain
The story of GMO, the mother of Woke Smoke, starts with Chemdawg—one of the most legendary strains in cannabis history. In 1991, a young grower, known as Chemdog, traveled from his home in Massachusetts to attend a Grateful Dead concert in Indiana. At the show, Chemdog purchased an ounce of cannabis from two fellow growers, who were known as P-Bud and Joe Brand. The growers referred to the strain as Dog Bud, stating that it was so potent that it caused users to “roll over like a dog.”
Chemdog exchanged phone numbers with P-Bud and Joe Brand and, after returning to his home in Massachusetts, he asked them to send him more of the Dog Bud.
When Chemdog received the package, he was delighted to find 13 seeds in the Dog Bud. That same year, he germinated a few of the seeds and discovered two of the finest phenotypes in cannabis history: Chem ’91 and Chem Sis.
In 2001, Chemdog germinated three more of the seeds, and labeled them “Chem C,” “Chem D,” and “Chem E.” The Chem D was the favorite, offering a large yield of potent, frosty buds that reeked of gasoline, skunk, and citrus.
In 2017, a popular breeder by the name of Mamiko Seeds acquired a cutting of Chem D and crossed it with the legendary Girl Scout Cookies strain. Skunkmasterflex, another well-known cannabis breeder, discovered an unusually pungent phenotype within Mamiko’s Chem D-Girl Scout Cookies hybrid. He dubbed this strain “GMO,” to highlight the strain’s powerful aroma of garlic, mushroom, and onion.
GMO became an overnight sensation, and growers and breeders around the world sought to get their hands on a cutting of this rare strain. Today, GMO is a favorite among medical and recreational users, and has been used by many breeders to produce exotic hybrids.
GMO is a hybrid of Chem D and Girl Scout Cookies. Although Chem D is a widely popular strain, its lineage is unknown. Due to its skunky and earthy aroma, some growers believe that Chem D may be a hybrid of Skunk No. 1. Others have suggested that it may be a cross of Pakistani Kush and Lemon Thai.
Animal Cookies, also known as Animal Crackers, is the other parent of Woke Smoke. Animal Cookies is a rare, clone-only cultivar that was developed by the Cookies Family of San Francisco. The Cookies Family, one of the most esteemed groups of breeders in the cannabis industry, has created many well-known cultivars such as Gelato 33 and Girl Scout Cookies.
Animal Cookies is a potent hybrid of Girl Scout Cookies and Fire OG. It produces larger yields and stronger branches than are typical of most Cookies varieties. Users report that Animal Cookies delivers a powerfully narcotic stone that may numb the body and boost the mood. Its potent effects and exotic flavor have made Animal Cookies a staple among growers, breeders, and users.
Animal Cookies Lineage
Animal Cookies, the other parent of Woke Smoke, is a cross of two elite cannabis cultivars— Girl Scout Cookies and Fire OG. Girl Scout Cookies, the mother of Animal Cookies is believed to be a three-way hybrid of Durban Poison, Florida OG, and a strain referred to as “F1.”
Fire OG, the other parent of Animal Cookies, also has an unclear pedigree. Some growers have suggested that Fire OG is one of the original phenotypes of OG Kush; however, others believe that it is an S1 or hybrid of OG Kush and an unknown variety. This elite cut is widely regarded to be one of the best OG Kush phenotypes.
Woke Smoke Feminized Cannabis Seeds
Greenpoint Seeds used the exotic, clone-only cut of Animal Cookies to pollinate the renowned GMO cut. The resulting hybrid—Woke Smoke—produces a variety of phenotypes that offer the best traits of GMO and Animal Cookies. Some plants may share the pungent aroma and powerful high of GMO, and others may share the exotic flavor and exceptional bag appeal of Animal Cookies.
Woke Smoke is an Indica-dominant feminized hybrid. Growers value feminized seeds because these seeds streamline the growing process, making it easy and rewarding. Growers can have peace of mind knowing that 99.9 percent of our feminized seeds will produce all-female plants. This eliminates the need to separate the male plants before they pollinate the females.
Woke Smoke Aroma
One of GMO’s most notable qualities is its pungent aroma. As the name suggests, this variety reeks of garlic, mushroom, and onion. When the buds are broken apart, notes of soil, gasoline, and halitosis also become noticeable.
In contrast, Animal Cookies offers a complex, sweet-and-sour bouquet that is highly aromatic. The buds emit sweet notes of brown sugar, cookie dough, and cherries, coupled with spicy scents of skunk, gasoline, and fresh soil. Some users also report undertones of pine and pepper when grinding up the flowers of Animal Cookies.
Woke Smoke combines the garlic funk of GMO with the sweet-and-sour bouquet of Animal Cookies, creating a terpene-rich strain that fills the room with a sweet-and-spicy aroma. This cultivar smells of garlic, skunk, gasoline, and onion, mixed with the sweet scents of cookie dough, cherry, and brown sugar.
Woke Smoke Flavor
The flavor of Woke Smoke is just as eye-opening as its aroma. This variety tastes of garlic, skunk, soil, and petrol, coupled with hints of cookie dough, citrus, and cherry. The smoke is thick and smooth, lingering on the palate long after the exhale. Some phenotypes of Woke Smoke may taste more of garlic and onions, and others may offer the sweet, tangy flavor of Animal Cookies. Most plants will offer a blend of these flavors.
Woke Smoke Effects
GMO has earned a reputation as one of the most potent strains available. This variety regularly tests at 25 percent THC, with some plants containing an astonishing 33 percent THC. Although GMO is incredibly potent, this variety offers a balanced high that is relaxing but functional. Users report that the high begins with a stimulating cerebral effect, which may elevate the mood, reduce stress, and provide a burst of creativity. Soon, the Indica effects kick in, easing pain and tension in the body. Due to its extreme potency, this variety is best enjoyed as an evening or nighttime smoke.
Animal Cookies also provides powerful and narcotic effects. This Indica-dominant variety delivers a strong body buzz that may ease tension and reduce pain. The high comes on quickly, elevating the mood, boosting the appetite, and relaxing the body. When consumed in excess, this strain may send even the most seasoned stoners into a deep sleep.
Woke Smoke marries these two Indica-dominant cultivars to create a powerful hybrid that is highly narcotic. The high starts with a thrilling cerebral rush and slowly descends to the rest of the body, soothing the muscles and relieving pain and tension. Woke Smoke is perfect for an after-dinner smoke or nightcap.
Woke Smoke Structure
GMO is of medium height, with elongated branches and thick, dark-green leaves. This variety forms medium to large-size colas that are heavily caked in resin. The buds are dense and frosty, with purple and red sugar leaves, white and orange pistils, and swollen calyxes.
Animal Cookies is medium to tall in height, with long, stretchy branches and small, frosty buds; however, this cultivar is somewhat more robust than most Cookies varieties. Animal Cookies forms thick, dark-green leaves that may display hues purple when exposed to cold temperatures. This cultivar produces small, bright-green buds that are ornamented with red pistils and hints of purple in the sugar leaves. Animal Cookies’ flowers are dense and heavily coated in trichomes.
Woke Smoke is medium to tall in height, and produces long, thin branches and emerald-green leaves with thick rails of resin. This variety forms heavy, medium-size colas that may cause the branches to bend under their weight. The buds are dense and sticky, displaying purple sugar leaves, red-orange pistils, and a thick blanket of milky trichomes. Some GMO-dominant phenotypes may produce larger colas, and some Animal Cookies-dominant phenotypes may form denser buds.
Growing Woke Smoke
GMO is a hardy and vigorous strain that is moderately easy to grow. This variety is resistant to most pests, diseases, and environmental stressors, and can be cultivated both indoors and outdoors. When grown outdoors, GMO flourishes in a warm and dry climate.
In contrast, Animal Cookies can be challenging to grow as it is sensitive to many environmental stressors. To produce a modest yield, this variety requires adequate nutrition, abundant lighting, a stable pH, and a moderate climate.
Woke Smoke is fairly easy to cultivate, and is resistant to most pests, diseases, and environmental stressors; however, some Animal Cookies-dominant phenotypes may be more sensitive to fluctuations in pH, temperature, humidity, and other conditions. Woke Smoke can be cultivated both indoors and outdoors if given a temperate climate.
Pest & Disease Control
Most Cookies varieties are susceptible to powdery mildew. Like its parents, Woke Smoke also may be prone to powdery-mildew infections. Growers can avoid powdery-mildew infections by using fans to provide sufficient air circulation, lowering the humidity in the grow room, and pruning the plants. Specialized foliar sprays can also be used to prevent the spread of powdery mildew.
Due to the unusual density and frost of the buds, some phenotypes of Woke Smoke may be prone to bud rot. As with powdery mildew, growers can prevent bud rot by removing excess leaves, providing ventilation, and maintaining a low humidity level during the flowering period (below 50 percent).
Cookies strains tend to require an ample supply of calcium and magnesium. Woke Smoke also thrives on a diet rich in calcium and magnesium. Growers can provide these micronutrients to the plants by including a cal-mag supplement in the nutrient schedule or adding dolomite lime and Epsom salt to the growing medium. A pH meter should be used when mixing nutrient solutions. This ensures that the plants receive a steady pH and can absorb the ideal amount of nutrients.
Harvesting & Curing Woke Smoke
Most phenotypes of Woke Smoke finish flowering in nine weeks; however, some plants may take up to eleven weeks to ripen. Growers can determine if the plants are mature by using a microscope or magnifying glass to observe the resin glands on the buds. When the trichomes turn from transparent to milky white, with some starting to turn amber, the plants are ripe and ready for harvest.
If Woke Smoke is harvested when the trichomes are still transparent, it may deliver a more energizing high. If it is harvested when the trichomes are mostly amber, the effects may be more relaxing. Harvesting the plants when they are fully ripened will help to secure a hefty yield of potent flowers.
One to two weeks before harvest, growers typically flush the plants. To do this, they stop feeding the plants with nutrient solutions and flush them with plain water. The flushing process helps to draw excess fertilizer from the flowers and improve their flavor, aroma, and overall quality.
To harvest the plants, growers start by cutting down the largest colas first. They detach the fan leaves from the branches, and then trim away the small sugar leaves enveloping the flowers. Removing the sugar leaves from the buds will enhance their appearance and make them less harsh when smoked.
After trimming the flowers, growers hang the branches by a node or place them on drying racks for three to six days. It may take longer to dry Woke Smoke buds, given their frost and density. When the branches snap rather than bend, growers will know that the buds have been fully dried.
After drying the buds, they are ready to be cured. A proper cure will aid in preserving the aroma, flavor, and potency of the buds. To cure the buds, growers usually remove the flowers from the branches and store them in sealable glass jars. They keep the jars in a cool, dry, and dark place, opening them twice a day for approximately three days. By opening the jars, growers can prevent excess moisture from accumulating in the flowers. After three days, the jars can be opened once a day for the next two weeks. The buds may be smoked after two weeks; however, it may take four to eight weeks to cure them properly.
