Bio-Diesel x Animal Cookies
Greezy, bred by Greenpoint Seeds, is the stinky, sticky offspring of Bio-Diesel and Animal Cookies strains of cannabis. With its pungent aroma and exceptional bag appeal, Greezy is sure to turn heads whenever it is around. Growers love its generous yield and vigorous growth, and users can’t get enough of its sweet-and-sour taste and powerful effects.
Bio-Diesel is an award-winning strain that has received widespread acclaim among medical and recreational users. This easy-to-grow cultivar is rich in terpenes and packed with THC. By crossing Bio-Diesel with the clone-only cut of Animal Cookies, Greenpoint Seeds created Greezy. This feminized hybrid brings together the high yield, powerful aroma, and vigor of Bio-Diesel with the density, resin production, and exotic flavor of Animal Cookies.
Bio-Diesel, the mother of Greezy, was originally developed by Denver Relief Farms, a well-known dispensary in Colorado. The breeders at Denver Relief Farms are believed to have created Bio-Diesel by crossing two of the most revered strains of all time: Sour Diesel and Sensi Star.
In 2009, Bio-Diesel made a name for itself when it took 1st Prize at Colorado’s second-annual Medical Marijuana Harvest Cup. After this, many medical-cannabis users visited Denver Relief Farms to try out the strain.
One user known as Koots was particularly fond of the potent high and pungent aroma of Bio-Diesel. He wanted to buy a clone of the strain, but the breeders at Denver Relief Farms were protective of their award-winning cultivar. Determined to grow the strain, Koots bought many ounces of Bio-Diesel and scoured each batch for seeds. In one batch, Koots was lucky enough to find 20 mature seeds. He immediately germinated these and selected one plant that closely resembled the Bio-Diesel he had become enamored of.
Koots’ cut was even more flavorful and aromatic than the original Bio-Diesel. This phenotype was sexually stable, offered a high yield, and was hardy and easy to grow. Koots passed his cut of Bio-Diesel to some friends, and soon several growers were working with the strain. Today, the cultivar is considered to be one of the best representations of the Diesel family, and many breeders have used Bio-Diesel to produce potent, high-yielding hybrids.
Bio-Diesel, the mother of Greezy, is reported to be a cross of Sour Diesel and Sensi Star; however, some growers believe it is more likely a cross of Sour Diesel, Sensi Star, Original Diesel, and NYC Diesel. The pedigree of Sour Diesel is unknown. Many believe that this strain was developed in the 1990s by a New York City grower known as AJ. Due to Sour Diesel’s Sativa characteristics and diesel-like aroma, some growers have suggested that the strain is likely a hybrid of Chemdawg and Super Skunk.
Sensi Star is a potent Indica-dominant variety bred in the mid-1990s by Paradise Seeds, a well-known cannabis seed company in Amsterdam. The breeders at Paradise Seeds have not stated what the pedigree of Sensi Star is; however, they have suggested that it is the offspring of an Afghani Indica. Due to the strain’s Sativa characteristics, many growers believe Sensi Star is a hybrid of an unknown Sativa and an Afghani Indica.
Animal Cookies, also known as Animal Crackers, is an elite clone-only variety bred by the Cookies Family. The Cookies Family, a well-known group of breeders based in San Fransico, has bred many top-tier cannabis varieties such as Thin Mint Cookies and Gelato 41.
To create Animal Cookies, the Cookies Family crossed the world-famous cut of Girl Scout Cookies with the legendary Fire OG. Animal Cookies offers the striking color and rich flavor of Girl Scout Cookies and the exceptional potency and vigor of Fire OG. As a result, Animal Cookies is considered to be one of the best cuts of Cookies available. This top-tier hybrid delivers an intense stone that may numb the body and calm the mind. Animal Cookies’ potent effects and sweet-and-sour fragrance have made this cultivar a hit among growers, breeders, and users alike.
Animal Cookies Lineage
Animal Cookies, the other parent of Greezy, is a hybrid of two remarkable Indica-dominant strains—Girl Scout Cookies and Fire OG. Girl Scout Cookies, the mother of Animal Cookies, is a cross of a mysterious hybrid known as F1 Durban, and the classic Florida OG Kush.
Fire OG, Animal Cookies’ other parent, is considered to be one of the finest representations of OG Kush. Some growers believe that Fire OG came from a cutting of the original OG Kush, but other growers believe that it may be an S1 of OG Kush.
By crossing Girl Scout Cookies and Fire OG, the Cookies Family created Animal Cookies—an elite strain that combines the sweet, tangy bouquet of Girl Scout Cookies and the powerful effects of OG Kush.
Greezy Feminized Cannabis Seeds
Greenpoint Seeds used the original clone-only cut of Animal Cookies to pollinate the award-winning Bio Diesel. The resulting strain, known as Greezy, melds the best qualities of these two potent varieties.
Greezy produces large, dense buds glazed in a thick layer of greasy trichomes. This hybrid produces a variety of elite phenotypes that are sure to please fans of Diesel and Cookies. Some phenotypes may share the pungent aroma and high yield of Bio-Diesel, and others may offer the exotic flavor and exceptional bag appeal of Animal Cookies. Most plants will display a blend of these desirable qualities.
Greezy is a feminized strain. Feminized seeds make the growing process easy by eliminating the need to identify and remove male plants from the garden. Approximately 99.9 percent of feminized seeds produce female plants. This means that growers can be confident that nearly every Greezy seed will produce a sexually stable female cannabis plant.
Most Diesel strains are known for their powerful aroma. Bio-Diesel is no exception, producing a pungent bouquet that can be smelled from a block away. Bio-Diesel buds fill the room with smells of skunk, soil, pine, and diesel, with sweet-and-sour undertones of citrus.
In contrast, Animal Cookies offers a unique aroma of fresh cookie dough, diesel fuel, skunk, and menthol. When the buds are broken apart, they often release hints of mixed nuts, soil, cherry, pine, and black pepper.
Greezy blends the scents of Bio-Diesel and Animal Cookies, creating a terpene-rich strain that is unlike any other. This cultivar smells of petrol, skunk, and soil, contrasted with sweet notes of cookie dough, cherry, and citrus.
Greezy offers an array of lip-smacking flavors that fans of Cookies and Diesel will appreciate. Some Bio-Diesel-dominant phenotypes may present the flavors of gasoline, skunk, and citrus. Some Animal Cookies-dominant may taste strongly of cookie dough, skunk, vanilla, and cherries. Most plants will offer a blend of these scrumptious flavors.
Bio-Diesel is a hybrid strain that offers a powerful but well-balanced effect. This strain provides a strong cerebral high that delivers a surge of euphoria and mental stimulation. This invigorating high slowly descends into a mildly sedating stone. Users report that this strain may ease pain, reduce stress, and promote relaxation. When consumed in small amounts, this variety is great for all-day use; however, when consumed in excess, Bio-Diesel may lull users into a deep sleep.
In contrast, Animal Cookies is famous for delivering an incredibly narcotic stone. This variety is reported to deliver an intense body-numbing effect that may reduce muscle tension, relieve pain, and promote a night of restful sleep. Animal Cookies is the perfect choice for a cozy evening or weekend smoke but is not ideal for daytime use.
Greezy combines the powerful cerebral high of Bio-Diesel with the body-numbing stone of Animal Cookies, creating a well-balanced hybrid that is highly potent. The high of Greezy begins with a wave of euphoria that may boost the mood and reduce stress. Soon, the analgesic properties of Greezy take effect, easing muscle tension and relieving pain. Some phenotypes of Greezy may be more uplifting and cerebral, and others may be more narcotic and pain-relieving. When consumed sparingly, Greezy makes for an excellent all-day variety; however, when consumed in excess, this cultivar may deliver a powerfully narcotic effect.
Bio-Diesel is tall in height, with long, thick stems, emerald-green leaves, and towering colas. This cultivar forms frosty, olive-green buds that are fluffy but dense. The buds are spattered with purple sugar leaves, amber pistils, and milky-white resin glands.
Animal Cookies is medium to tall in height, with long branches and small, dark-green leaves that tend to display hues of yellow and purple as the plants mature. Animal Cookies forms small, bright-green flowers adorned with red-orange hairs and shades of purple in the sugar leaves. The buds are compact and caked a thick glaze of resin.
Greezy is medium to tall in height. It forms long branches that have significant internodal spacing. This variety produces medium-size colas caked in a greasy layer of trichomes. Some Animal Cookies-dominant phenotypes may be shorter than the other plants and may form denser buds. Some Bio-Diesel-dominant phenotypes may be larger and form fluffier buds.
Bio-Diesel is an easy-to-grow variety that is hardy and vigorous. This cultivar is resilient to most pests and diseases and can handle minor fluctuations in temperature, pH, and lighting. Due to its fluffy bud structure, most Bio-Diesel phenotypes are resilient to bud rot. Bio-Diesel is an adaptable strain that can be cultivated both indoors and outdoors. When grown outdoors, this cultivar favors a warm and moderately humid climate. When grown indoors, Bio-Diesel must be properly trained to limit its height.
In contrast, Animal Cookies is known to be a difficult strain to cultivate and is sensitive to most environmental stressors. To produce a moderate yield, this variety requires proper nutrition, a stable pH, ample lighting, and a warm and dry climate. Due to these factors, Animal Cookies typically performs best when grown indoors.
Greezy is a moderately easy strain to grow and is much harder and more resilient than Animal Cookies. Greezy is resistant to many pests and diseases and can be grown both indoors and outdoors, using a variety of cultivating methods. When grown outdoors, Greezy thrives in a temperate climate, with low humidity. Because of its tall stature, indoor growers may benefit from using low-stress or high-stress training methods such as topping, fimming, or super cropping during the vegetative growth period. This will limit the stretch during the early flowering period and boost the yield of Greezy.
Pest & Disease Control
Due to its Animal Cookies heritage, some phenotypes of Greezy may be prone to infections of powdery mildew. To prevent powdery mildew infections, growers typically prune the plants, use fans to increase air circulation, and lower the humidity during the flowering cycle. During the vegetative period, growers can also use a variety of foliar sprays to prevent powdery mildew infections.
Given the compactness of the buds, some phenotypes of Greezy may be susceptible to bud rot, also known as botrytis. Growers can reduce the risk of bud rot by thinning the canopy in the growing area, providing plenty of ventilation, and keeping the humidity level low, especially during the flowering period.
Animal Cookies tends to require more micronutrients, such as calcium and magnesium, than most cannabis strains require. Some phenotypes of Greezy also may require an abundance of these nutrients. Growers can provide these nutrients to the plants by incorporating a cal-mag supplement into the nutrient program, or by using soil amendments such as dolomite lime, gypsum, or crushed oyster shells. Growers should always use a pH meter when mixing nutrient solutions. This will help ensure that the plants maintain a consistent pH and can absorb the optimum amount of nutrients.
Harvesting & Curing Greezy
Greezy is a relatively fast-flowering strain, with most plants completing the flowering cycle in 10 weeks. Some Diesel-dominant phenotypes may take up to 11 weeks to fully mature. The best way to tell if the plants are mature is by using a magnifying glass or jeweler’s loupe to examine the resin glands. When the resin glands turn from transparent to milky white, with some beginning to turn amber, the plants are likely ready to be harvested. If Greezy is harvested early, it may provide a more energizing high. If harvested late, the effects tend to be more relaxing. By harvesting the plants when they have reached maturity, growers can attain maximum yield and potency.
One to two weeks before harvest, most growers stop fertilizing the plants and start flushing them with distilled water. This practice helps to break down any remaining nutrients in the buds and make them more flavorful. During the flushing period, Greezy’s fan leaves often turn from dark-green to purple and yellow.
After flushing the plants, growers harvest them by cutting down the colas. They remove the large leaves that are attached to the branches and trim the sugar leaves on buds. Manicuring the flowers will enhance their appearance and make them smoother to smoke.
Once the buds have been neatly manicured, they are ready to be dried; however, some growers prefer to trim the buds after drying. To dry the flowers, growers hang the branches place them on drying racks for up to a week. The buds are dry when they feel crispy to the touch and the branches become brittle.
Finally, growers remove the dried buds from the drying racks and place them in sealable jars. They keep the jars in a cool and dark area to protect the trichomes on the flowers. Once or twice a day, growers open the jars to prevent moisture from collecting on the buds. After two to four weeks in the jar, the flowers are cured and are ready to be enjoyed.
