Bison Breath Strain
Motorbreath No. 15
Motorbreath No. 15’s tale starts with Chemdawg, one of the most potent and aromatic strains on the market. In 1991, a grower nicknamed Chemdog traveled from his home in Massachusetts to attend a Grateful Dead show in Indiana. At the concert, Chemdog bought a bag of cannabis from two growers known as P-Bud and Joe Brand. The growers mentioned that the strain was called Dog Bud, claiming that it was so powerful that it made users “roll over like a dog.”
Chemdog exchanged contact information with P-Bud and Joe Brand and, upon returning to his home in Massachusetts, requested that they send him more of the Dog Bud.
When Chemdog received the package, he was thrilled to discover 13 seeds in the DogBud. That same year, he sprouted some of the seeds and came across two of the most renowned cuts in cannabis history: Chem ’91 and Chem Sis.
In 2001, Chemdog sprouted three more of the seeds, labeling them “Chem C,” “Chem D,” and “Chem E.” The Chem D was the best of the group, providing a hefty yield of resin-covered flowers that reeked of petrol, skunk, and lemon. The Chem D cut quickly became a favorite among growers and users alike.
Sometime later, Jimmy Nitz of Pisces Genetics attained a clone of Chem D and pollinated it with the timeless San Fernando Valley OG. He dubbed this hybrid “Motorbreath” to highlight its distinct aroma of gasoline. Jimmy sprouted many Motorbreath seeds, selecting only 20 of the finest plants. Of the 20 phenotypes, Motorbreath No. 15 was the keeper. This phenotype produced a generous yield of flowers that were potent, flavorful, and incredibly frosty.
Since its inception, Motorbreath has won numerous awards and has become a widely popular strain among medical and recreational users. Breeders around the world have used Jimmy’s Motorbreath No. 15 to create pungent and potent hybrids.
Motorbreath No. 15 Lineage
Motorbreath No. 15, the mother of Bison Breath, is a cross of Chem D and SFV OG. Although Chem D is a well-known cultivar, its ancestry is unknown. Given its skunky and earthy fragrance, some growers suggest that Chem D might be a cross of Skunk No. 1. Others have proposed that it could be a hybrid of Pakistani Kush and Lemon Thai. The pedigree of SFV OG also is unknown. Some say it is a cut of the original OG Kush, while others believe it might be an S1 of OG.
Stardawg, the father of Bison Breath, was initially bred by JJ NYC of Top Dawg Seeds and released onto the market in 2011. JJ created Stardawg with the goal of translating the prized qualities of Chemdawg into a line of seeds.
To create Stardawg, JJ used an Afghan No. 1 to pollinate the authentic cut of Chem D. He then backcrossed this strain with Chem D two more times. Finally, he used this inbred strain, known as Tres Dawg, to pollinate the Chem 4 cut, boosting its yield. JJ dubbed his new strain “Stardawg” in light of its plentiful trichomes that glimmer like stars.
Stardawg is a cross of Chem 4 and Tres Dawg. Tres Dawg, Stardawg’s father, is a backcrossed strain that descends from Chem D and an Afghan No. 1 male from Sensi Seeds. Both Chem 4 and Chem D are progenies of Chemdawg.

Bison Breath Structure
Motorbreath No. 15 is of average height, with thick stalks and broad, dark-green leaves. This strain produces enormous colas that are heavily sprinkled with resin glands. Motorbreath No. 15 forms rock-hard, bright-green buds with large calyxes and red pistils.
Stardawg is of medium height, with stout branches, tight internodal spacing, and forest-green fan leaves. This strain produces humongous, flawlessly formed colas that are covered with a thick glaze of glistening trichomes. Stardawg forms big, neon-green flowers with orange pistils and emerald-green sugar leaves. Most Stardawg plants remain green throughout the flowering period; however, some less-common phenotypes may turn purple when grown in cold climates.
Bison Breath is medium to tall in height, with robust branches and large, saw-toothed fan leaves. This variety forms large colas that are drenched in resin. The large, spear-shaped buds are moderately dense and exceptionally frosty. Some OG-dominant phenotypes may be taller, with thinner branches, less lateral growth, and denser buds.
Growing Bison Breath
Motorbreath cannabis seeds are an excellent selection for all levels of growers. This strain is a fun variety for beginners to learn how to train their plants and for seasoned growers to push their skills to maximize yields and push this insanely potent cannabis variety to its peak performance. Motorbreath has some stretch during the vegetative stage and the first couple weeks of flower, but it is very minimal overall. This makes Bison Breath an excellent selection for indoor gardens with height limitations. As this strain progresses through the flowering stage, it develops big, golf-ball-size flowers that are entirely covered in trichome heads. When given proper lighting and nutrition, and a stable environment, this variety can complete the flowering cycle in nine to ten weeks.
Pest & Disease Control
Due to its OG Kush ancestry, Bison Breath may be somewhat susceptible to powdery mildew infections. Growers can prevent the spread of powdery mildew by keeping the plants pruned, using oscillating fans to promote airflow, and reducing the humidity in the grow room. Foliar sprays such as water and apple cider vinegar solutions may help mitigate the growth of powdery mildew.
Motorbreath No. 15 is known to require a rich supply of calcium and magnesium. Bison Breath also requires more calcium and magnesium than the average cannabis strain. To avoid calcium and magnesium deficiencies, growers can feed the plants with a cal-mag supplement or enrich the soil with dry amendments such as gypsum, crushed oyster shells, and dolomite lime.
