Wedding Cake x Animal Cookies
Double Dip is a feminized hybrid of Wedding Cake and Animal Cookies—two of the finest dessert-themed strains ever created. This cultivar from Greenpoint Seeds blends the best traits of Kush and Cookies to create a connoisseur-grade strain that growers, as well as consumers, love. The extreme trichome production of Double Dip makes it an excellent choice for hash makers and extractors, and its sugary sweet aroma and powerful effects are sure to keep users coming back for more.
Wedding Cake and Animal Cookies, the parents of Double Dip, are powerful strains that have won numerous awards in recent years. Wedding Cake is an easy-to-grow variety that offers a large yield of frosty buds. In contrast, Animal Cookies is a potent and aromatic strain that is somewhat challenging to grow. By combing the two, Greenpoint Seeds developed a hardy and vigorous hybrid that retains the best qualities of both and is moderately easy to grow.
Double Dip Strain
Wedding Cake is the mother of Double Dip. This cultivar has received widespread acclaim and is known for delivering large yields of sweet buds that are heavily caked in resin.
The story of Wedding Cake started with a popular line of seeds known as Triangle Mints. Triangle Mints was developed by Jbeezy of Seed Junky Genetics. To create the strain, Jbeezy used his prized Animal Mints male to pollinate the original, clone-only cut of Triangle Kush. The resulting hybrid, known as Triangle Mints, was a hit among growers and users.
One particular phenotype of Triangle Mints stood out from the rest. This cut produced a generous yield of buds that emitted a lovely aroma of lemon, vanilla, cookie dough, and sponge cake. The Jungle Boys, a famous group of growers in Los Angeles, nicknamed this phenotype “Wedding Cake,” in honor of its sweet aroma.
Wedding Cake became an overnight sensation, and enthusiastic breeders used it to create such exotic strains as Jungle Cake, Guava Cake, and Wedding Pie. In 2018, Wedding Cake won 1st Prize for Best Hybrid Flower at the Southern California High Times Medical Cannabis Cup. Since it has won many other awards and has become a powerful tool for breeders who are looking to create potent and flavorful hybrids.
Wedding Cake Lineage
Wedding Cake, one of the parents of Double Dip, is a phenotype of the Triangle Mints line of seeds. Triangle Mints is a hybrid of the famed Triangle Kush and Jbeezy’s Animal Mints male. Triangle Kush is one of the most popular strains of all time and is believed to have been created through the accidental pollination of an Emerald Triangle plant by a Hindu Kush plant.
Animal Mints, the father of Wedding Cake, was created by Seed Junky Genetics. The Animal Mints strain is a three-way cross of Animal Cookies, Girl Scout Cookies, and Sin City Seeds’ Blue Power male. Seed Junky has used the Animal Mints stud to create several high-quality strains, including Kush Mints, Animal Face, and Animal Walker.
Animal Cookies is a potent cross of Girl Scout Cookies and Fire OG. This legendary strain was created by the Cookies Family of California during the early 2010s. In addition to Animal Cookies, the Cookies Family has bred a wide array of highly coveted strains, including Gelato #33, Biscotti, and many others.
Animal Cookies Lineage
Animal Cookies, Double Dip’s other parent, is an Indica-dominant hybrid of the famed Girl Scout Cookies and the classic Fire OG. Although Girl Scout Cookies is a highly sought-after strain, its ancestry is somewhat mysterious. The Cookies Family has stated that Girl Scout Cookies is a hybrid of Florida OG Kush and a proprietary strain known as F1 Durban.
Fire OG, Animal Cookies’ other parent, also has an unclear pedigree. This cut, popularized by breeder OG Raskal, is likely an S1 of the original OG Kush; however, some growers believe it may be a cutting of the original Kush that was brought to California in the 1990s.
Double Dip Feminized Cannabis Seeds
To create Double Dip, Greenpoint Seeds pollinated the award-winning phenotype of Wedding Cake with the rare, clone-only cut of Animal Cookies. Double Dip produces a variety of phenotypes that offer the best traits of Cookies and Kush. Some plants may share the large yield and sweet aroma of Wedding Cake, and others may present the sweet-and-sour tang of Animal Cookies. Due to its Triangle Kush and Fire OG ancestors, some phenotypes may present the growth structure and aroma of OG Kush.
Double Dip Aroma
The aroma of Wedding Cake is similar to that of a freshly baked cake. The flowers of this scrumptious strain emit sweet and creamy notes of vanilla extract, lemon, cake batter, and cookie dough. When ground up, subtle hints of pine and gasoline become noticeable.
Animal Cookies exudes a rich, complex fragrance that is tangy and sweet. The buds smell distinctly of brown sugar, cookie dough, and cherries, coupled with bitter scents of skunk, gasoline, and fresh soil. Some users also report undertones of pine and pepper when grinding up the dried flowers.
The aroma of Double Dip is a tribute to both of its parents. Double Dip combines the delicious aromas of Wedding Cake and Animal Cookies to create a terpene-rich strain that is both sweet and tangy. This cultivar smells of lemon, vanilla, and cherries, contrasted with bitter undertones of skunk, gasoline, and soil. Some phenotypes of Double Dip may share the sweet and delicate aroma of Wedding Cake, and others may emit the sweet-and-spicy bouquet of Animal Cookies. Finally, some rare phenotypes may share the pine, fuel, and soil aroma of Triangle Kush and Fire OG.
Double Dip Flavor
The flavor of Double Dip is as delectable as the aroma. This variety coats the mouth with a double dose of the sweet flavors of cake batter and cookie dough, with sharp notes of lemon, pine, and pepper. Some phenotypes will be sweeter and creamier, and others will offer a taste more sour and tangy. Most will provide the lip-smacking flavor that Cookies strains are famous for.
Double Dip Effects
Wedding Cake is an Indica-dominant hybrid that provides a deeply calming and soothing effect. This cultivar is highly potent, with some plants containing more than 25 percent THC. Users report that Wedding Cake puts the mind at ease and relieves pain and general feelings of discomfort. The high begins as a gentle wave of euphoria and slowly transforms into a relaxing body stone that may ease muscle tension. When consumed in large quantities, this potent strain may cause users to become glued to the couch.
Animal Cookies also delivers calming and sedating effects. This Indica-dominant strain produces a powerful body buzz that may release tension and ease pain. The high comes on rapidly, improving the mood, stimulating the appetite, and soothing the body. When consumed in excess, this strain may cause users to drift off into a deep slumber,
Double Dip unites these two Indica-dominant cultivars to create a potent hybrid that is highly narcotic. The high starts with a pleasant head rush and gently descends to the rest of the body, soothing the muscles and relieving pain and tension. Double Dip is perfect for an after-dinner smoke or a late-night treat.
Double Dip Structure
Wedding Cake is of medium height, with robust branches and sharply serrated leaves that often have thick resin rails. This variety forms medium to large-size colas that are heavily caked in a thick layer of trichomes. The flowers of Wedding Cake are dense and sticky, with purple sugar leaves, golden pistils, and milky white resin glands.
Animal Cookies is medium to tall in height, with slender branches, lengthy petioles, and small leaves that have wide leaflets. When exposed to chilly temperatures, the leaves usually display hues of violet. Animal Cookies produces compact, light-green flowers that are dappled with bright-orange pistils and flecks of purple.
Double Dip is as beautiful as it is potent, and it shares the characteristics of both parents. This variety usually is of medium height; however, some plants may be taller and lankier. Double Dip develops medium-size colas that are dense and heavy. The emerald flowers are ornamented with purple sugar leaves, amber pistils, and white trichomes.
Growing Double Dip
Wedding Cake is a hardy and vigorous strain that many growers find easy to cultivate. This variety is resilient to most pests and diseases, and can handle fluctuations in temperature. Wedding Cake is an adaptable strain and, as such, can be grown both indoors and outdoors, using a variety of cultivation methods. When grown outdoors, Wedding Cake thrives in a temperate climate, with moderate humidity.
Animal Cookies, however, is a difficult variety to cultivate. This strain may be hindered by significant changes in temperature and pH, and other environmental stresses. Animal Cookies performs best indoors, with plentiful lighting, proper nutrition, and a balanced pH.
Double Dip presents a potent and flavorful dessert-themed strain that is easier to grow than most Cookies varieties. This cultivar is resistant to most pests and diseases and can flourish indoors or outdoors if given a temperate climate. However, some Animal Cookies-dominant phenotypes may be more sensitive to harsh environmental conditions.
Animal Cookies stretches significantly as it begins to bloom. Like its parent, some phenotypes of Double Dip may stretch in height, particularly during the early flowering stage. Growers can restrict the vertical growth and maximize the yield of Double Dip by using a combination of low-stress and high-stress training methods. This strain benefits from super cropping, fimming, topping, and other training techniques. The weight of the hefty colas may cause the branches to sag during the late flowering period. Staking or trellising the plants may prevent the branches from flopping over.
Some phenotypes of Double Dip produce a thick canopy of leaves. Growers can increase light penetration and promote air circulation by removing excess fan leaves.
Pest & Disease Control
Many phenotypes of Double Dip are highly resilient to pests and diseases; however, some plants may be susceptible to powdery mildew infections. Growers can avoid powdery mildew by keeping the grow room clean, providing ample lighting and airflow, and using foliar sprays during the vegetative growth period.
Harvesting & Curing Double Dip
Double Dip is a fast-flowering strain, with the majority of plants completing the flowering cycle in 9 weeks. To determine when the plants are ready to be harvested, most growers use a magnifying glass to inspect the trichomes. The plants are fully ripe when the trichomes have turned from transparent to white, with a few starting to turn amber. Buds that are not fully ripe tend to deliver a more uplifting high, and overripe buds typically provide a more sedating effect. Harvesting Double Dip when the trichomes are white will ensure maximum potency and yield.
A couple of weeks before harvest, growers typically flush the plants with water. A thorough flush may improve the flavor of the buds by doing away with excess chlorophyll and fertilizers that may be stored in the flowers.
After flushing, the plants are ready to be harvested. To harvest the plants, growers start by chopping down the colas, removing the fan leaves from the branches, and neatly trimming the flowers.
Once the buds have been manicured, they are ready to be dried. Some growers, however, prefer to trim the buds after drying them. To dry the buds, growers hang up the branches in a cool and dry place for three to six days.
The final part of the harvesting process is to give the buds time to cure. A proper cure can bring out the aroma, flavor, and potency of the buds. To cure the buds, most growers prefer to store them in sealable glass jars and keep the jars in a cool, dry, and dark area. They open up the jars once or twice a day to hasten the curing process and prevent mold from growing on the buds. After a few weeks of curing, growers can enjoy the fruits of their labor.
