City Slicker Strain – Gelato 33 x Stardawg
City Slicker is a top-tier hybrid with an elite pedigree. This variety combines Gelato 33 and Stardawg—two proven strains renowned for their potency and aroma. City Slicker brings out the best traits of each parent strain, offering the exotic color, flavor, and bag appeal of Gelato 33 and the vigorous growth and abundant yield of Stardawg.
Gelato 33 has received worldwide acclaim for its glamorous bag appeal and luscious aroma. By combining this legendary strain with their trusty Stardawg male, Greenpoint Seeds has created City Slicker—an easy-to-grow variety that reliably produces top-shelf buds.
The Gelato strain’s story began in 2011 when a mutual acquaintance introduced two California-based growers, Jigga and Sherbinski. The two soon became friends and decided to work on a cannabis-breeding project together.
Jigga used some pollen from his Burmese Blackberry Kush to pollinate Sherbinski’s cut of OG Kush. This hybrid—Pink Panties—was potent and highly aromatic but did not produce a sufficient yield. Despite this, Sherbinski kept a cut of Pink Panties.
This plant turned out to be a male and, before Sherbinski could cull it, the plant pollinated Jigga’s Thin Mint Cookies. Sherbinski was upset, but he chose to germinate some of the seeds. One of these seeds would become one of the most sought-after phenotypes in the US: Sunset Sherbet.
Jigga and Sherbinski then backcrossed the Thin Mint Cookies to Sunset Sherbet and sprouted hundreds of seeds. They kept only the best phenotypes, naming them Gelato 25, Gelato 33, and Gelato 41.
Gelato 33 was the favorite of the three phenotypes, delivering a solid yield of premium buds that were frosty and flavorful. This strain became an instant hit; growers and users across the globe now treasure its delectable fragrance and blissful effects. Some new Gelato strains include the Blue Gelato strain, the Gelato Sorbet strain, and the Gelato 41 weed strain, among many others. Many growers, however, consider Gelato 33 to be the best gelato strain.
Gelato 33 Lineage
Gelato 33, the mother of City Slicker, is a mostly-Indica cross of Sunset Sherbet and Girl Scout Cookies strains of cannabis. Because Sunset Sherbet also is a descendant of Girl Scout Cookies, Gelato 33 is a Cookies backcross. Backcrossing is a popular method of breeding that stabilizes the qualities of a given strain. Because Gelato 33 is a Cookies backcross, it preserves many of the esteemed characteristics of Girl Scout Cookies.
Stardawg, City Slicker’s father, was created by JJ NYC of Top Dawg Seeds. JJ bred Stardawg in hopes of stabilizing many of the prized traits of the famed Chemdawg strain.
To create Stardawg, JJ used an Afghan No. 1 from Sensi Seeds to pollinate his Chem D cut. Next, he backcrossed this hybrid with the Chem D two more times, selecting for Chem-dominant offspring. Lastly, he crossed this strain with the Chem 4 cut, increasing both its yield and vigor. JJ named this variety “Stardawg,” perhaps to underscore its sparkling resin glands that are as white as stars.
Stardawg, the father of City Slicker, is a hybrid of Chem 4 and Tres Dawg. Tres Dawg is a backcross of Chem D, with an Afghan No. 1 male. Chem 4 and Chem D are phenotypes of Chemdawg, also known as Dog Bud—an illustrious strain with a mysterious lineage. Given its funky, earthy aroma, some growers suggest that Chem D could be the offspring of Skunk No. 1. Others believe that it might be a cross of Lemon Thai and Pakistani Kush.

The breeders at Greenpoint Seeds used their famed Stardawg stud to pollinate the clone-only cut of Gelato 33. The resulting hybrid—City Slicker—produces many phenotypes that display the marvelous qualities of both parents. Some Gelato 33-dominant phenotypes may be sweeter and frostier, and some Stardawg-dominant plants may offer a larger yield and skunkier fragrance. Most plants will offer a blend of qualities from these two elite strains.
City Slicker Aroma
As its name suggests, Gelato 33 offers a wonderfully sweet and fruity fragrance. This cultivar emits sugary notes of orange and berry, with undertones of menthol and soil. Its aroma is redolent of a delicious frozen dessert.
In contrast, Stardawg offers a pungent bouquet with powerful notes of skunk, petrol, halitosis, and damp soil. Once broken apart, the buds emit subtle hints of mint and citrus. This variety’s acrid aroma is one of its most unique qualities.
City Slicker mixes the sugary-sweet fragrance of Gelato 33 with the skunky, funky scent of Stardawg, creating a mouthwatering bouquet that is magnificently complex. This variety smells of orange and berry, with sharp notes of gasoline, skunk, mint, and damp soil.
City Slicker Flavor
City Slicker coats the mouth with an unforgettable sweet-and-skunky flavor. This variety tastes of fresh fruit and mint, with bitter undertones of skunk, diesel fuel, pine, and soil. Some phenotypes may be sweeter and fruiter and others may be more earthy and skunky. Its range of flavors offers something for everyone.
City Slicker Effects
Gelato 33 is a potent strain capable of producing up to 25 percent THC. This hybrid is slightly Indica-dominant in terms of its effects. Users report that the high starts with a blast of euphoria, which later shifts into a soothing and pain-relieving stone.
Stardawg, on the other hand, is a Sativa-dominant strain that delivers an energizing cerebral high. This strain tends to heighten mental focus, leaving users feeling alert and functional. Stardawg may also help relieve pain and muscle tension without making the user feel sluggish. Stardawg’s uplifting effects make this strain a great all-day smoke.
City Slicker unites the euphoric and calming stone of Gelato 33 with the invigorating cerebral high of Stardawg, creating a balanced effect suitable for medical and recreational users alike. The high sets in with a stimulating and inspiring cerebral rush and soon begins to relax the muscles and calm the mind. When consumed in moderation, Gelato 33 makes for a delightful afternoon or evening smoke.
City Slicker Structure
Gelato 33 is somewhat stockier than most Cookies cuts. This variety grows to medium height, with robust stalks and fat, sharply serrated leaves that typically fade to red and purple during the late flowering period. Gelato 33 forms rock-hard, popcorn-size flowers with large calyxes. The flowers are a sight to behold, with bright-orange pistils and violet sugar leaves glazed with a thick layer of trichomes.
Stardawg also is of average height, with thick branches, ideal internodal spacing, and dark-green leaves. This strain produces gargantuan colas that are generously sprinkled with resin glands. Stardawg forms large, lime-green flowers with auburn pistils and creamy trichomes. Most Stardawg phenotypes are green; however, some rare plants may display hues of purple.
Like its parents, City Slicker is of medium height, with sturdy stalks and extensive lateral branching. This hybrid forms medium- to large-size colas, with lime-green and purple buds that are exceptionally dense and frosty. Gelato 33-dominant phenotypes may be frostier and more colorful, and Stardawg-dominant plants may have thicker branches and larger colas.
