Ghost OG x Animal Cookies
Scooby Snacks is so frosty, flavorful, and potent, that it might be supernatural. This Indica-dominant feminized cultivar brings together two legendary cannabis strains—Ghost OG and Animal Cookies—to create a powerful hybrid that produces a variety of elite phenotypes. Scooby Snacks forms dense, sticky buds that are as white as a ghost but far more fun to have around the house.
Ghost OG is one of the original phenotypes of OG Kush. Many growers and breeders consider Ghost OG to be one of the most flavorful, aromatic, and potent OG Kush cuts on the market. Animal Cookies, in turn, is known for its exceptional resin production, exotic flavor, and narcotic effects. By crossing these two strains, Greenpoint Seeds has created Scooby Snacks—a connoisseur-grade hybrid that brings together the best qualities of OG Kush and Cookies.
Scooby Snacks Strain
Ghost OG, the mother of Scooby Snacks, traces its heritage to the classic OG Kush, perhaps the most famous cannabis cultivar of all time. The story of OG Kush began in 1992, when Alec Anderson, a grower in Southern Florida, acquired an ounce of an incredibly potent and aromatic variety known as “Krippy.” Alec was elated to find some seeds in the bag of Krippy, and he decided to germinate them.
One of the plants was a keeper, and Alec gave a clone to his friend, Matt “Bubba” Berger. One of Matt’s friends noted that the dense, frosty buds looked like “kushberries,” and the group of friends began referring to the cut as “Kush.”
In 1996, Matt decided to get involved in the medical-cannabis industry. Armed with a clone of Kush, he moved to Silverlake, California, where he and a friend named Josh D. started a cannabis-growing operation. The Kush proved to be a big hit in California, and the two growers hastily expanded operations. However, many other enthusiastic growers started circulating fake cuts of Kush, so the two friends began referring to their cut as “OG Kush,” or “OGers,” emphasizing its status as the original Kush.
One breeder, known as OrgnKid, bought a bag of OG Kush and was so captivated by the strain that he tracked down a clone of it and paid $5,000 and five pounds of cannabis for the cut. To recoup some of this investment, OrgnKid began selling S1 seeds and clones of the cut. For $1,000, OrgnKid sold a clone of OG Kush to a gardener nicknamed Ghost1. Soon, growers and users began referring to OrgnKid’s cut as “Ghost OG.”
Today, Ghost OG remains one of the most popular strains in the world, and is considered by many to be the best representation of OG Kush. Ghost OG has been used by numerous breeders to create countless OG hybrids that are potent, frosty, and highly aromatic.
Ghost OG Lineage
Many growers believe that Ghost OG, the mother of Scooby Snacks, is an original phenotype of OG Kush. This cutting reportedly came from the same plant that Alec Anderson gave to his friend Matt “Bubba” Berger in the early 1990s.
The lineage of OG Kush is unknown. Due to the strain’s lemony flavor and Kush-like structure, many people have suggested that OG Kush may be a hybrid of Lemon Thai and Pakistani Kush. Others say that it may be a descendent of Chemdawg, given its funky, earthy aroma.
Animal Cookies is a clone-only variety that has received worldwide acclaim for its outstanding potency and bag appeal. This cultivar was bred by the Cookies Family—one of the most prominent breeding collectives in the cannabis industry. This group of breeders has created several renowned strains such as Gelato 33 and Sunset Sherbet.
The Cookies Family developed Animal Cookies by crossing their phenotype of Girl Scout Cookies with Fire OG. Animal Cookies melds the unique aroma and flavor of Girl Scout Cookies with the exceptional potency of Fire OG. As a result, Animal Cookies is considered to be one of the best cuts of Cookies. This Indica-dominant strain delivers a body-numbing stone that may ease pain and boost the mood. Its potent effects and robust flavor have made Animal Cookies a favorite among medical and recreational users.
Animal Cookies Lineage
Animal Cookies, the other parent of Scooby Snacks, brings together two iconic strains—Girl Scout Cookies and Fire OG. According to the Cookies Family, Girl Scout Cookies is a three-way hybrid of Durban Poison, Florida OG, and an elusive variety called “F1.”
Fire OG is the other predecessor of Animal Cookies. This cut hails from the OG Kush that was brought from Florida to California during the mid-1990s. Some growers believe that Fire OG is an original cutting of OG Kush, while others suspect that it is an S1 or hybrid of OG.
Scooby Snacks Feminized Cannabis Seeds
Greenpoint Seeds used the rare, clone-only cut of Animal Cookies to pollinate the legendary Ghost OG. The resulting strain—Scooby Snacks—produces a range of phenotypes that display the elite qualities of both parents. Some phenotypes may lean toward the balanced effects and lemon-pine aroma of Ghost OG, and others may present the narcotic stone and incredible resin production of Animal Cookies. Most phenotypes will offer a combination of these traits.
Scooby Snacks is an Indica-dominant feminized hybrid. Growers value feminized seeds because these seeds make the growing process simple. By using feminized seeds, growers can rest assured that 99.9 percent of the seeds will produce all-female plants. This eliminates the need to keep a close eye on the plants and separate the males from the garden.
Scooby Snacks Aroma
Ghost OG is known for its complex and powerful aroma that is bittersweet. This variety fills the room with the scents of pine, soil, gasoline, and lemon-scented cleaning products. When the buds are ground up, hints of ginger ale also become noticeable.
In contrast, Animal Cookies offers a rich, sweet-and-sour scent that is highly aromatic. The buds emit sweet notes of brown sugar, cookie dough, and cherries, paired with spicy hints of skunk, gasoline, and fresh soil. Some users also report undertones of pine and pepper when grinding up the flowers of Animal Cookies.
Scooby Snacks melds the mouthwatering aromas of both parents. This variety smells of pine, lemon, soil, and gasoline, mixed with notes of cookie dough, cherries, and brown sugar. Depending on the phenotype, some plants may lean toward the acrid bouquet of Ghost OG, and others may offer the sweet-and-sour aroma of Animal Cookies.
Scooby Snacks Flavor
Scooby Snacks combines the rich flavors of its parents, coating the mouth with notes of pine, lemon, soil, and petrol, as well as hints of cookie dough, cherries, and brown sugar. The rich flavor of Scooby Snacks lingers on the tongue for several minutes. Some OG-dominant phenotypes will taste more of pine and gasoline, and some Cookies-dominant phenotypes will be sweeter. Most plants will present a mixture of these flavors.
Scooby Snacks Effects
Ghost OG delivers a powerful high that is well-balanced. Users report that this variety provides a strong cerebral effect that tends to elevate the mood and ease stress. This potent cerebral high is paired with a mellow, body-numbing stone that may reduce pain, ease muscle tension, and stimulate the appetite. Ghost OG offers a euphoric and soothing effect that is powerful but not overwhelming. When consumed in moderation, this variety makes for a great afternoon smoke.
Animal Cookies provides powerful and narcotic effects. This Indica-dominant variety produces a strong body buzz that may ease tension and reduce pain. The high comes on quickly, elevating the mood, boosting the appetite, and relaxing the body. When consumed in excess, this strain may send even the most seasoned stoners into a deep sleep.
Scooby Snacks brings together the well-balanced high of Ghost OG with the narcotic and sleep-inducing stone of Animal Cookies. The high starts with a rush of euphoria, and slowly descends into a relaxing and soothing stone. Ghost OG-dominant phenotypes may be more uplifting and cerebral, and Animal Cookies-dominant phenotypes may be more narcotic. This variety offers powerful analgesic properties that may provide relief for medical users.
Scooby Snacks Structure
Ghost OG is medium to tall in height, with long, lanky branches that have significant internodal spacing. This cultivar forms thick, sharply serrated leaves that typically display three to five leaflets. When provided with ample lighting, Ghost OG produces medium-size colas that have a high calyx-to-leaf ratio. The lime-green buds are dense and frosty, and are decorated with orange pistils.
Animal Cookies is medium to tall in height, with long, thin branches and emerald-green leaves. The leaves often display shades of purple and red when exposed to cold temperatures. Animal Cookies forms bright-green, popcorn-size buds that are dappled with purple sugar leaves and red-orange pistils.
Like its parents, Scooby Snacks is medium to tall in height, with long branches that have substantial internodal spacing. This variety forms small- to medium-size colas that are heavily caked in resin. The flowers are incredibly dense and sticky. When exposed to cold temperatures, some phenotypes of Scooby Snacks may display hues of purple and red in the leaves and buds.
Growing Scooby Snacks
Ghost OG is a moderately easy strain to cultivate, and is resistant to many pests, diseases, and environmental stressors. This variety can be grown both indoors and outdoors, using a variety of cultivation techniques. When grown outdoors, Ghost OG favors a temperate climate with moderate humidity.
In contrast, Animal Cookies is a challenging strain to cultivate. This variety is sensitive to fluctuations in temperature and pH, and to other environmental stresses. Animal Cookies thrives in a highly controlled environment, with ample lighting, adequate nutrition, and a consistent pH.
Scooby Snacks is easier to grow than most Cookies varieties, and is resistant to most pests and diseases. This variety is adaptable, and can thrive both indoors and outdoors. However, some Animal Cookies-dominant phenotypes may be more sensitive to environmental stresses.
Both Ghost OG and Animal Cookies tend to stretch significantly during the early flowering period. Like its parents, most phenotypes of Scooby Snacks will stretch in height during the early flowering period. Growers can limit the vertical stretch and increase the yield of this cultivar by using a variety of high-stress and low-stress training methods. The plants respond well to topping, fimming, super cropping, and other training techniques.
Pest & Disease Control
Many phenotypes of Scooby Snacks are highly resilient to pests and diseases; however, some plants may be susceptible to infections of powdery mildew. Growers can avoid fungal diseases by pruning the plants, providing ample lighting and air circulation, and reducing the humidity level. They can also use water and sodium bicarbonate solutions, and other foliar sprays, to stop the spread of powdery mildew.
Due to the density and resin coverage of the buds, some Scooby Snacks plants may be prone to bud rot. Growers can prevent bud rot by lightly pruning the plants, providing sufficient ventilation, and keeping the humidity level low (below 50 percent) during the flowering period.
Most OG and Cookies strains require an ample supply of calcium and magnesium. Growers can prevent calcium and magnesium deficits by using a cal-mag supplement or by using dry amendments such as Epsom salt and dolomite lime. Because some Animal Cookies-dominant phenotypes may be sensitive to pH fluctuations, it is recommended that growers use a pH meter when mixing the nutrient solutions.
Harvesting & Curing Scooby Snacks
Scooby Snacks is a fast-flowering strain, with most plants reaching maturity in nine weeks; however, some phenotypes may take ten weeks to ripen fully. Growers can tell if the plants are ripe by using a jeweler’s loupe or microscope to look at the trichomes on the flowers. When the trichomes have turned milky white, with some turning amber, the plants are ready for harvest. If the plants are harvested when the trichomes are clear, Scooby Snacks may deliver a more uplifting and stimulating high. Harvesting the plants when the trichomes are mostly amber typically yields buds that deliver a more narcotic effect. By harvesting the plants when they have fully matured, growers can achieve maximum yield and potency.
Approximately one to two weeks before harvest, growers typically stop using fertilizers and flush the plants with plain, distilled water. By flushing the plants, growers can remove unwanted fertilizers in the buds and improve their aroma and flavor. During this period, the large fan leaves of the plants may fade from emerald-green to yellow, purple, and red.
Growers begin the harvesting process by cutting down the top colas first. They remove the large fan leaves and manicure the flowers by trimming away the small sugar leaves that envelope the buds. The sugar leaves can be used to make extracts, edibles, and other products.
After manicuring, the buds are ready to be dried. Growers hang the branches by a node or place them on a drying rack for three to six days. It may take longer to dry Scooby Snacks, given the density and frost of the buds. Growers know the plants are dry when the stems snap rather than bend.
Once the plants have been dried, they are ready to be cured. The curing process is an important step, and can preserve the aroma, flavor, and potency of the buds. Growers remove the buds from the branches and place them in sealable glass jars. They store the jars in a cool, dry, and dark place, and open them once or twice a day. This process will prevent moisture from accumulating in the flowers. After two weeks, the buds are ready to be smoked; however, it may take up to eight weeks to cure them fully.
