Granddaddy Purple

Granddaddy Purple is Ken Estes’ answer to a trade-off. He loved Purple Urkle and could not live with its yield, so in the early 2000s he put his Urkle cut against Big Bud, the commercial workhorse said to carry Northern Lights, Haze and Afghani. The 2003 release named itself: everything about the plant is violet.

GDP became the reference purple for a generation and the grandfather, through Purple Punch, of most of the color on the modern shelf.
