Since 2019, Purple Punch has been a cornerstone of our catalog at Greenpoint Seeds. When I first partnered with Will, we explored various genetics, but it was clear that Purple Punch was destined to be the star. Our decision to push Purple Punch to the forefront wasn’t just a business move—it was the start of something legendary.
Purple Punch first caught the cannabis world’s attention thanks to Supernova Gardens. Although relatively unknown at the time, Supernova introduced this strain to the West Coast, where it quickly became a sensation. The California market, already a behemoth in its own right, has always had the luxury of thriving independently. With its massive population and robust economy, it didn’t need validation from the rest of the country. New strains could take root and flourish there, often before the rest of the world even heard their names.
Coming from Florida, I moved to what would become the Mecca of cannabis in the late 2010s—Denver, Colorado. It was then when I connected with Budologist, a forum member who had started Symbiotic Genetics in California. Purple Punch was their debut breeding parent, and the strain was on the cusp of stardom. In 2018, I flew out to the Bay Area to meet Budologist and his wife at the renowned Alexander’s Steakhouse, a stone’s throw from Apple’s headquarters in San Jose.
That dinner was unforgettable. Picture this: a pristine white-tablecloth setting, sterling silver utensils, bottles of fine wine lining the walls, and a room filled with Silicon Valley’s elite. Amidst this opulence, Budologist and his wife seemed almost out of place—two humble home growers known for their massive tree-like plants and soil-building knowledge shared on forums. It was the end of my “seedbank” phase, a period where I had crisscrossed the country, signing deals with the hottest breeders just as their careers were about to explode.
Symbiotic Genetics, Dungeon’s Vault, Cult Classics, Oni Seeds (now Bloom), Cannaventure, Moss Cutty—I had them all. I would fly first class, stay in the finest hotels, and take these then up-and-coming breeders out for extravagant steak dinners and wild nights on the town. So, when I slapped down $10,000 in crisp hundreds on the table in front of Budologist, I knew exactly what I was doing. I was securing the next big thing. And I got him.
He sent me packs of seeds—his soon-to-be-famous crosses like Purple Punch S1 and Mimosa. Back then, I was selling packs of Purple Punch on our reverse auction for $500, and people couldn’t get enough of it. Purple Punch was the new Granddaddy Purple, and it became an instant classic.
But time marches on. Symbiotic Genetics grew into a California staple, and Purple Punch became a household name in the cannabis world. So when Will and I discussed what to use for breeding, our clone-only cut of Purple Punch was the obvious choice. It was fire, pure and simple. But now, after six incredible years, it’s time to retire Purple Punch and its hybrids.
The world of cannabis genetics is always evolving, and there’s new flame out there waiting to be discovered. We’re also excited to bring back some old-school classics that still hold their ground. So, we’ve put the Purple Punch hybrids on sale. Once they’re gone, they’re gone for good.
This is more than just a sale—it’s a piece of Greenpoint history. Each 12-pack of feminized seeds represents a chapter in our story, a period of growth, and a series I’m incredibly proud to have released.
So, here’s to the end of an era. Enjoy this final opportunity to own a piece of our legacy, and thank you for being part of the journey.
