Gorilla Glue No. 4 x Stardawg
Tomahawk is a flavorful cross between Josey Wales’ Gorilla Glue #4 and Greenpoint Seeds’ proven Stardawg male. This connoisseur-grade strain produces a large yield of premium buds that are dense, frosty, and highly aromatic. Tomahawk combines the finest Chem genetics to create an elite hybrid that will captivate fans of Chem and Glue.
Gorilla Glue No. 4
Gorilla Glue No. 4, also known as Original Glue and GG4, is the mother of Tomahawk. This strain’s distinctive aroma and powerful effects have made it one of the most sought-after cultivars in recent years.
Gorilla Glue No. 4’s story started in 2009, when Josey Whales, a former crane operator, began cultivating his own cannabis again after a long hiatus. In hopes of obtaining some cannabis strains, he connected with some growers on an online forum. Sometime later, Whales met with them in a parking lot in Barstow, California, where he was given clones of Sour Dubble and Chem’s Sister. Soon after, he obtained a cutting of Chocolate Diesel.
Whales’ brother, Lone Watty, also shared an interest in cannabis, and he created a hybrid of Chem’s Sister and Sour Dubble. One of the plants from this cross was a hermaphrodite and had pollinated Whales’ garden. Whales was discouraged by the unintended pollination and gave the seeded buds to a few of his friends. One grower, known as Marlin, saved some of the seeds he found in Whales’ Chocolate Diesel flowers.
The following year, Marlin and Whales sprouted some of the seeds found in the Chocolate Diesel buds. They carefully observed the plants, assuming that these would share the same hermaphroditic tendencies that the Chem’s Sister/Sour Dubble plant had displayed. Whales kept three phenotypes which he deemed to be keepers and labeled them “No. 1,” “No. 2,” and “No. 4.” Whales recognized that the No. 4 phenotype was exceptional, and he gave cuttings of it to many of his friends. One grower mentioned that this cultivar’s buds were as sticky as Gorilla Glue, and the name stuck.
Soon, many growers were cultivating Gorilla Glue No. 4 in the United States, treasuring the strain for its frosty buds and rich fragrance. In 2014, Gorilla Glue No. 4 won first-place awards at the High Times Cannabis Cup in Los Angeles and later received first place at the Michigan High Times Cup. From that point on, Gorilla Glue No. 4 reached celebrity status, receiving a myriad of awards and becoming a go-to strain for professional growers and hobbyists alike.
Gorilla Glue No. 4 Lineage
GG4, Tomahawk’s mother, is a polyhybrid of Chocolate Diesel, Chem’s Sister, and Sour Dubble. This mostly-Indica strain is heavily influenced by the Chocolate Diesel, forming large colas that radiate a sweet-and-tangy aroma, with distinct chocolate undertones. Because Gorilla Glue No. 4 is a polyhybrid, its progeny may exhibit a wide range of characteristics.
Stardawg, the father of Tomahawk, was released onto the market in 2011 by JJ NYC of Top Dawg Seeds. JJ created Stardawg in order to preserve many of the prized qualities of the classic Chemdawg strain.
JJ bred Stardawg by using a male Afghan No. 1 from Sensi Seeds to pollinate the clone-only cut of Chem D. Next, he backcrossed this hybrid with Chem D twice. Lastly, he used this backcrossed strain, known as Tres Dawg, to pollinate his Chem 4 cut, improving its yield and robustness. JJ named his creation “Stardawg,” likely to underscore its copious trichomes that twinkle like stars.
Stardawg is a hybrid of Chem 4 and Tres Dawg. Tres Dawg, the father of Stardawg, is a backcross of Chem D and Afghan No. 1. Chem 4 and Chem D are descendants of Chemdawg—a legendary strain with a mysterious lineage. Given its skunky, funky scent, some growers think that Chem D could be the offspring of Skunk No. 1. Others believe that it may be a cross of Lemon Thai and Pakistani Kush.
