Grape Pie x Stardawg
Jelly Pie is a divine pairing of Grape Pie and Stardawg. This hybrid ticks all the right boxes, offering hardy, vigorous growth, copious yields, rich aroma and flavor, excellent trichome production, and a potent but balanced high.
A variety with a nose of exceedingly sweet grape jelly, Grape Pie brings back memories of sandwiches from my youth. Grape Pie is aesthetically stunning, with trichomes covering every part of its purple-tinted calyxes. The Indica-leaning stone delivers a long-lasting experience of relaxed and happy numbness. By combining Grape Pie with Stardawg, Greenpoint Seeds has created Jelly Pie—a balanced hybrid that adds some much-needed funk to the popular Grape Pie cultivar.
Jelly Pie Strain
The story of Grape Pie, Jelly Pie’s mother, begins with Cherry Pie—one of the most sought-after cannabis varieties on the market. Cherry Pie is a unique, clone-only strain bred by Jigga, a renowned cannabis breeder associated with the Cookies Family of California. To create Cherry Pie, Jigga is said to have crossed Granddaddy Purple, Durban Poison, and a mysterious strain referred to as “F1.”
Cherry Pie quickly became popular among growers and users, who cherished its fruity scent and potent high. A breeder in Colorado by the name of Cannarado Genetics obtained a clone of Cherry Pie and crossed this cultivar with a male Grape Stomper phenotype. Cannarado named the resulting hybrid “Grape Pie” to underscore its sweet, fruity fragrance. He has since used Grape Pie to develop potent and flavorful strains such as Wedding Pie and Sundae Driver.
Grape Pie Lineage
Grape Pie is a cross of Cherry Pie and Grape Stomper. Cherry Pie is reportedly a three-way hybrid of Granddaddy Purple, Durban Poison, and an enigmatic variety known as “F1.” Grape Stomper, Grape Pie’s father, is a hybrid of Purple Elephant and Chemdawg Sour Diesel.
Stardawg, the father of Jelly Pie, was first released in 2011 by Top Dawg Seeds. JJ NYC, the founder of Top Dawg Seeds, bred Stardawg in hopes of creating a line of seeds that embodied the prized qualities of the classic Chemdawg strain.
JJ created Stardawg by pollinating the clone-only cut of Chem D with a male Afghan No. 1 from Sensi Seeds. Later, he backcrossed this hybrid with Chem D two times, naming this strain Tres Dawg. Finally, he used a Tres Dawg male to pollinate the Chem 4 cut, improving the yield and hardiness of Tres Dawg. JJ named the resulting strain “Stardawg,” possibly emphasizing its bounteous trichomes that glimmer like stars.
According to JJ NYC, Stardawg is a cross of Chem 4 and Tres Dawg. Tres Dawg, Stardawg’s father, is a backcross of Chem D, using an Afghan No. 1 male. Chem 4 and Chem D are the offspring of Chemdawg—a celebrated strain of unknown ancestry. Given its skunky, earthy aroma, some growers have suggested that Chem D could descend from Skunk No. 1. Others propose that it could be a hybrid of Lemon Thai and Pakistani Kush.

Grape Pie’s most beloved trait is its delectable aroma. This strain emits a sugary-sweet scent that tantalizes users. As its name suggests, Grape Pie fills the room with the smell of grapes and freshly baked pastries. This fruity fragrance is intermingled with earthy and herbal undertones.
In contrast, Stardawg offers an inimitable bouquet of skunk, gasoline, halitosis, and soil. Hints of menthol and lemon also become apparent when breaking apart the flowers. This strain’s pungent scent is one of its most treasured qualities.
Jelly Pie fuses the fruity fragrance of Grape Pie with the pungent odor of Stardawg, creating a rich bouquet that is loaded with terpenes. This variety smells of grape pastries, with sharp notes of petrol and skunk.
Jelly Pie Flavor
Jelly Pie offers a rich, mouthwatering flavor that is delightfully complex. This strain tastes of grape, herb, and soil, with funky notes of diesel and skunk. Some Grape Pie-dominant phenotypes may taste sweeter, and some Stardawg-dominant plants may be earthier and skunkier. Most will offer a blend of mouthwatering flavors.
