Valley Chem Strain
Topanga Canyon OG
The tale of Topanga Canyon OG begins with an old-school cannabis strain known as Topanga Canyon Pure Kush. This classic, clone-only cultivar originated in California during the early 1990s. Topanga Canyon Pure Kush, often referred to as Malibu Pure Kush or Hollywood Pure Kush, is a potent, mostly-Indica variety that closely mirrors OG Kush’s fragrance, effects, and bud structure. This strain forms dense, heavy buds that emit distinct notes of lime, soil, and petrol, with sweet, creamy hints of marshmallow.
In the 2010s, the Jungle Boys, a collective of growers in California, crossed the legendary Topanga Canyon Pure Kush with a powerful strain known as Sweatband. This hybrid, known as Topanga Canyon OG, is a top-notch strain that delivers the flavor and potency of OG Kush but with a greater yield and stronger structure than most OG phenotypes.
The Jungle Boys distributed Topanga Canyon OG at their dispensaries in California, and the cultivar soon became popular among many medical and recreational cannabis users. Today, this strain is highly sought-after by growers and users and has been used by breeders to create potent and high-yielding OG hybrids.
Topanga Canyon OG Lineage
Many growers suggest that Topanga Canyon OG, the mother of Valley Che, is a cross of Topanga Canyon Pure Kush and Sweatband. Although Topanga Canyon Pure Kush is a popular strain, its ancestry is ambiguous. Given its similarities to OG Kush in its structure, effects, and fragrance, many consider it to be an S1 or hybrid of the original OG Kush. Others have proposed that it could be the offspring of Hindu Kush. Sweatband, Topanga Canyon OG’s other parent, is a cross of OG Kush, Sour Diesel, and an unidentified phenotype of Chemdawg.
Stardawg
Stardawg, Valley Chem’s father, was created by JJ NYC of Top Dawg Seeds and released in 2011. JJ developed the Stardawg strain in hopes of creating a line of seeds that expressed the many stellar traits of Chemdawg.
To create Stardawg, JJ first bred the Chem D cut with a male Afghan No. 1. Afterward, he crossed this hybrid with Chem D two more times, producing a Chem D backcross which he named “Tres Dawg.” Lastly, he used a phenotype of Tres Dawg to pollinate the Chem 4 cut, effectively improving its yield and structure. JJ named this strain “Stardawg,” perhaps to emphasize its abundance of bright, shining trichomes.
Stardawg Lineage
JJ NYC states that Stardawg is a hybrid of Chem 4 and Tres Dawg. Tres Dawg, Stardawg’s parent, is a backcrossed variety originating from Chem D and Afghan No. 1. Chem 4 and Chem D are phenotypes of the timeless Chemdawg strain. The ancestry of Chemdawg is unknown.
Valley Chem Cannabis Seeds
The breeders at Greenpoint Seeds used their celebrated Stardawg male to breed with the rare, clone-only cut of Topanga Canyon OG. This hybrid, known as Valley Chem, produces unique phenotypes that combine the elite characteristics of both parental lines. Some plants may deliver the robust flavor and hard-hitting potency of Topanga Canyon OG, and others may offer the skunky aroma and soaring high of Stardawg. Most phenotypes will provide an amalgamation of these qualities.
Valley Chem Aroma
Topanga Canyon OG provides a rich fragrance redolent of other OG Kush cuts such as SFV OG and Ghost OG. Topanga Canyon OG smells distinctly of pine, kerosene, damp soil, and lemon-scented chemical cleaning solutions.
Stardawg radiates a unique bouquet of skunk, petrol, burnt rubber, and soil. Some users also report hints of citrus and menthol when breaking apart the dried buds. This strain’s pungent aroma is one of its most treasured qualities.
Valley Chem combines the robust scent of Topanga Canyon OG and Stardawg, producing a terpene-rich strain that is earthy and skunky. The smells of lemon, gasoline, pine, and soil compliment the pungent notes of roadkill skunk, burnt rubber, and leather. Some plants may share the lemon-pine scent of Topanga Canyon OG, and others may offer the skunky and musty fragrance of Stardawg.
Valley Chem Flavor
The flavor of Valley Chem is full-bodied and complex. This hybrid coats the palate with citrus, skunk, pine, soil, and diesel fuel notes. Some plants may taste more of OG Kush, and others may provide the skunky, funky flavor of Stardawg. Most phenotypes will display a mixture of these unique flavors.
Valley Chem Effects
Topanga Canyon OG delivers a powerful high that is perfectly balanced. This strain can produce more than 25 percent THC and is packed with terpenes. The effects kick in with a blissful cerebral blast that leaves users feeling content and inspired. Soon, this stimulating high melts into a soothing and body-numbing stone. Users report that Topanga Canyon OG makes them feel happy and relaxed but not sluggish. When consumed in moderation, Topanga Canyon OG makes for a great afternoon smoke; however, this strain may send users to bed early when consumed in larger amounts.
Stardawg is a mostly-Sativa strain that offers an invigorating cerebral high. This cultivar tends to enhance focus, boost the appetite, and provide an intense sensation of euphoria. Stardawg also may provide relief from pain, fatigue, and tension throughout the body.
Valley Chem unites the balanced high of Topanga Canyon OG with the uplifting effects of Stardawg, delivering a powerful high that boosts the mood and relaxes the body. The effects start with a rush of energy and soon begin to loosen the muscles, relieving pain and discomfort throughout the body. When consumed in moderation, Valley Chem makes for a wonderful afternoon treat.
Valley Chem Structure
One of Topanga Canyon OG’s favored characteristics is its sturdy structure. This strain provides the flavor and power of OG Kush but has more robust branching and a greater yield than most OG cuts. Topanga Canyon OG forms thick branches that have moderate internodal spacing. This strain produces huge, husky colas that are heavily sprinkled with resin glands. The dark-green, golf ball-shaped flowers are bulky and dense and are adorned with orange pistils and a thick glaze of resin glands.
Stardawg is of average height, with thick stalks, compact internodal spacing, and dark-green leaves. During the flowering stage, this cultivar produces monstrous, immaculately formed colas covered with a thick coating of trichomes. Stardawg forms large, bright-green buds with red-orange pistils and forest-green sugar leaves. Most Stardawg phenotypes are green; however, some rare plants may display lavender hues when grown in cold climates.
Valley Chem is medium to tall in height, with long, thick branches that have moderate internodal spacing. This strain produces medium-sized colas with heavy buds that are encrusted with large resin glands. Topanga Canyon OG-dominant phenotypes may be somewhat taller and have a tighter bud structure than the other plants.
Growing Valley Chem
Valley Chem is an excellent choice for growers of all skill levels. This cultivar is pest- and disease-resistant and can endure many environmental stressors. Valley Chem may stretch during the early flowering period, but it is easily controlled using high- and low-stress training techniques such as topping or super cropping. This strain can complete the flowering stage in nine weeks when provided with adequate lighting and nutrients and a mild climate.
Pest & Disease Control
Because of its OG Kush lineage, Valley Chem may be somewhat prone to infections of powdery mildew. Growers can stop the growth of powdery mildew by pruning the plants, using oscillating fans to provide airflow, and decreasing the humidity in the grow room. Foliar sprays such as water and apple cider vinegar solutions may help mitigate the growth of powdery mildew.
OG Kush requires an abundance of micronutrients such as calcium and magnesium. Some Valley Chem phenotypes may also need extra calcium and magnesium. To prevent calcium and magnesium deficits, growers can incorporate a bottled cal-mag supplement into the nutrient regime or enrich the soil with dry amendments such as gypsum and dolomite lime.

I ordered these seeds about 3-4 months ago, just now got to them. Order was perfect (as usual), received my seeds in just a few days- even with the covid chaos with the postal system at the time. Germinated at the same time as some seeds that I got more recently from a very popular european seed bank. After only 48 hours the seeds from Greenpoint have already cracked and developed a full inch long taproot, the euro seeds haven’t even cracked yet. Amazing, Greenpoint’s Germ rates exceed my expectations- most seeds crack for me in less than 24 hrs. Will post some photos and update when there older, but I was so impressed by Greenpoint’s consistency I had to mention it. Thanks guys, stand up customer service-
