Chemdog

If you’re a fan of the frosty, funky cannabis on today’s market, you owe a debt of gratitude to Greg “Chemdog” Krzanowski. This Massachusetts-based grower and breeder has helped lay the foundation for the modern cannabis industry, discovering some of the most celebrated cannabis varieties in the world.

Krzanowski is famous for popularizing the classic Chemdog line, also known as Chemdawg. He first discovered the Chem 91 and Chem Sis phenotypes in 1991 and has preserved them for more than 30 years. Later, he and his friend, Joe Brand, would come across the iconic Chem D and Chem 4. Since their discovery, these Chem phenotypes have been used by countless breeders to create many of the cannabis varieties we enjoy today.

Unfortunately, Krzanowski was arrested in 2011 after his grow operation was raided by police. In an interview with Cannabis & Tech Today, he said:

“I think that getting in trouble put me in the position where I am now, to do what I am doing. I’m not sure where I would have been if I didn’t get in trouble… not in a bad way, just where I would have been, would I have kept growing in my home and just stayed like that? I think it put me in a position to be in a legal market, do what I want to do, and do it legally.”

Greg Krzanowski still plays an important role in the cannabis industry. He has recently partnered with Canna Provisions—a cultivation and retail business based in Massachusetts—to start his first legal grow operation.
