Blue Dream x Stardawg
Dreamcatcher is a Colorado-born cross between Blue Dream and Stardawg. This strain is astoundingly potent, averaging approximately 24 percent THC in its fluffy, mint-green flowers. Boasting delicious flavors of blueberries and citrus blossom, Dreamcatcher offers a unique terpene profile that is sweet and skunky. Its large yield, vigorous growth, and quick flowering time make Dreamcatcher an excellent choice for commercial and hobby growers alike.
Blue Dream’s tale begins with Blueberry—one of the most recognized American cannabis varieties. Blueberry was created in the 1970s by a renowned breeder known as DJ Short. DJ had collected several landrace-Sativa cultivars but was unsatisfied with their lengthy flowering time and unruly growth. He tried growing Indica strains but did not enjoy their sedating stone. Unable to find a cultivar that suited his needs, DJ’s solution was to create a hybrid of Sativa and Indica varieties.
DJ first developed a hybrid of a Purple Thai Sativa and an Afghani Indica. He dubbed this strain “Flo” to underscore its floral fragrance. Later, DJ crossed some Flo phenotypes with a Thai-Afghani hybrid, known as Juicy Fruit Thai. He named the resulting strain “Blueberry” because of its sweet, berry-like aroma and blue coloration in the leaves and buds. DJ then inbred the Blueberry strain for several generations, stabilizing many of its distinctive qualities.
In the early 2000s, an unidentified grower in Santa Cruz, California, obtained a cutting of DJ Short’s prized Blueberry strain. The grower crossed the strain with a Haze variety that had been prevalent in the Santa Cruz area. From this cross came Blue Dream—one of the most popular cannabis cultivars on the market.
Blue Dream Lineage
Blue Dream, the mother of Dreamcatcher, is a Sativa-dominant cross of Blueberry and Haze. Blueberry, in turn, is an Indica-dominant hybrid descending from Thai and Afghani varieties. This strain was produced by hybridizing a Purple Thai female with an Afghani male and then crossing the progenies of this hybrid with Juicy Fruit Thai female.
Haze was created in Santa Cruz, California, during the 1970s by two breeders known as the Haze Brothers. The breeders started by developing a hybrid of Mexican and Colombian landrace varieties and then crossed the offspring of this hybrid with a Thai landrace strain. The resulting strain, known as Haze, is a potent cultivar that has become one of the most sought-after Sativas worldwide.
Stardawg, the father of Dreamcatcher, was created by JJ NYC of Top Dawg Seeds and first released onto the market in 2011. JJ created this strain in hopes of capturing the many extraordinary characteristics of the Chemdawg line.
To create Stardawg, JJ used an Afghan No. 1 to breed with the Chem D phenotype of Chemdawg. He then backcrossed the progeny of this hybrid with Chem D two more times. Finally, he used this inbred strain, Tres Dawg, to pollinate the Chem 4 cut. JJ dubbed his new strain “Stardawg” in light of its abundant trichomes that glimmer like stars.
Stardawg is a cross of Chem 4 and Tres Dawg. Tres Dawg, Stardawg’s father, is a backcrossed variety that descends from Chem D and Afghan No. 1. Chem 4 and Chem D are phenotypes of Chemdawg.
Dreamcatcher Cannabis Seeds
The breeders at Greenpoint Seeds created Dreamcatcher by crossing the authentic, clone-only cut of Blue Dream with their trusty Stardawg male. This exceptional hybrid combines the humongous yield and sweet flavor of Blue Dream with the face-melting potency and skunky fragrance of Stardawg, creating a well-rounded strain that any grower will appreciate.
One of Blue Dream’s distinctive traits is its sweet, fruity fragrance. This cultivar emits rich notes of blueberry and wildflower, with undertones of lemon and sandalwood. Depending on how it is grown, Blue Dream may take on more of a blueberry-pie aroma, or it may present the woody and floral scent of Haze.
In contrast, Stardawg is known for its pungent, skunky aroma. This variety assaults the senses with sharp notes of gasoline, burnt rubber, and roadkill skunk, with earthy undertones of soil and pine.
Dreamcatcher marries the sweet-berry scent of Blue Dream with the raunchy skunk funk of Stardawg, creating a complex aroma that is one of a kind. This variety smells of ripe berries, wildflowers, and lemon peel, with hints of diesel fuel, pine, and skunk. Some Blue Dream-dominant phenotypes may smell sweeter, and Stardawg-dominant plants may be funkier. Most will offer a blend of sweet-and-skunky scents.
Dreamcatcher offers a scrumptious sweet-and-sour flavor that is multifaceted. The smoke is thick, with distinct notes of blueberries, herbs, and petrol. Users often comment on the lingering flavors, which soon give way to the Dreamcatcher high.
Blue Dream regularly tests at around 20 percent THC, though its two percent CBD level is also quite attractive. Upon consuming Blue Dream, users often notice an immediate rush of creative motivation, which often lasts for an hour or more. However, as time passes, the Blue Dream experience often transforms into one of comfortable lethargy.
As an incredibly potent strain, Stardawg is a true favorite within the medical community. It is reported to help battle stress, fatigue, nausea, pain, gastrointestinal issues, and much more. Though not particularly narcotic, Stardawg may also help fight insomnia when consumed just before bedtime. However, this Sativa-dominant hybrid tends to boost motivation throughout the day when consumed in small doses.
Dreamcatcher combines the mellow, dreamy high of Blue Dream with the uplifting and inspiring effects of Stardawg, creating a potent cerebral experience that is both soothing and energizing. The high begins with a burst of euphoria that continues to build for up to 30 minutes. Users often feel very focused and motivated to perform basic tasks like washing the dishes, reading a book, spending time with a partner, or journaling at the end of the day. However, this initial surge of energy slowly gives way to a relaxing body stone.
Blue Dream, the mother of Dreamcatcher, is tall in height, with abundant lateral branching and lengthy internodal spacing. This variety forms gigantic, weighty colas that are generously dusted in trichomes. The flowers are big and fluffy, and are decorated with orange hairs and emerald-green sugar leaves.
Stardawg is of medium height, with strong branches, compact internodal spacing, and deep-green fan leaves. This strain produces towering colas that are covered with a thick sheen of resin. Stardawg forms large, lime-green buds with rusty-orange pistils and dark-green sugar leaves. Some rare Stardawg phenotypes may display shades of purple when grown in cold climates.
Dreamcatcher is medium to tall in height, with thick branches and plenty of lateral growth. Like its parents, this variety forms huge colas that may bend branches under their considerable weight. Dreamcatcher produces a large yield of big, frosty buds that are moderately dense.
Dreamcatcher is a hardy and easy-to-grow strain that is excellent for growers of all skill levels. This variety is resistant to most pests and diseases, and can withstand many environmental stressors.
Some Haze-dominant phenotypes may stretch significantly during the early flowering period. Growers can minimize the stretch by using high- and low-stress training techniques such as topping, super cropping, or fimming. These training techniques will promote more lateral growth and further boost the yield of Dreamcatcher.
The best time to begin feeding Blue Dream supplemental nutrients is when the seedlings have at least two nodes of growth. Standard 3-3-3 organic fertilizers work well when fertilizing the plants during the vegetative stage. However, growers should reduce nitrogen levels during the flowering stage to promote flower development.
When grown in a stress-free environment, Dreamcatcher is usually ready to harvest within nine to ten weeks of flowering indoors, or mid to late September for outdoor grows.
Pest & Disease Control
Dreamcatcher is resistant to most pests and diseases; however, some Blueberry-dominant phenotypes may be susceptible to fungus gnat infestations. Growers can prevent infestations by allowing the soil to dry out between waterings, using sticky traps, and spraying the plants with neem oil during the vegetative growth period.
