Triangle Kush x Animal Cookies
Diamond Cookies is the brilliant offspring of two of the most celebrated strains in cannabis history: Triangle Kush and Animal Cookies. This Indica-dominant feminized hybrid, developed by Greenpoint Seeds, produces rock-hard, frosty buds that are loaded with flavor and potency.
Both Triangle Kush and Animal Cookies, the parents of Diamond Cookies, have received widespread acclaim for their exceptional potency and bag appeal. The resulting hybrid, Diamond Cookies, offers the best traits of Kush and Cookies and produces a treasure trove of top-tier phenotypes that will satisfy growers and users alike.
Diamond Cookies Strain
Triangle Kush, the mother of Diamond Cookies, is one of the most famous phenotypes of cannabis in the world. This cut was named after the three cannabis-producing capitals in Florida—Tampa, Jacksonville, and Miami¬.
The story of Triangle Kush started with a young cannabis enthusiast known as Origins_tk, or OTK, who lived in South Florida. During the late 1980s, OTK became immersed in the surfing scene in Florida. Soon, he started hanging out with other surfers who shared his love of cannabis. In early 1990, one of OTK’s friends introduced him to a grower known as the Governor. This grower recognized OTK’s passion for cannabis and invited the young surfer to work for him at his grow operation. OTK eagerly took the job and moved to Central Florida to work for the Governor.
The Governor’s operation was highly sophisticated for the time, but he grew only a few strains of cannabis. OTK recognized the need for more variety, so he traveled to Amsterdam and went shopping for new cultivars. OTK wound up buying more than $10,000 worth of seeds from The Seed Bank of Holland and brought them to Florida.
While testing the seeds acquired in Amsterdam, OTK came across some promising female Hindu Kush plants. He took a few of these plants to the main grow room and placed them next to the Governor’s prized strain, known as Emerald Triangle.
When the plants were ready to be harvested, OTK was discouraged to find that one of the Hindu Kush plants had turned hermaphroditic and had pollinated the Governor’s Emerald Triangle plants.
Within the batch of seeded buds, OTK’s friends discovered Triangle Kush and OG Kush, two of the most well-known strains in history.
Triangle Kush Lineage
Many growers believe that Triangle Kush, the mother of Diamond Cookies, is an F1 hybrid of Emerald Triangle and Hindu Kush. Emerald Triangle was a popular strain that circulated in Florida in the early 1990s; however, little is known about this variety.
Hindu Kush is a pure-Indica cultivar that originated in the Hindu Kush mountains of Afghanistan and Pakistan. This landrace strain was brought to Amsterdam by Nevil Schoenmakers, who bred Hindu Kush to perform well indoors.
Animal Cookies, also known as Animal Crackers, is the other parent of Diamond Cookies. Animal Cookies is a clone-only variety that was bred by the Cookies Family of San Francisco. The Cookies Family, one of the most respected groups of breeders in the cannabis industry, has created many well-known cultivars such as Gelato 33 and Girl Scout Cookies.
Animal Cookies is a potent hybrid of Girl Scout Cookies and Fire OG, producing a larger yield and stronger branches than are characteristic of other Cookies varieties. Users report that Animal Cookies delivers a powerfully narcotic stone that may numb the body and boost the mood. Its potent effects and unique flavor have made Animal Cookies a staple among growers, breeders, and users.
Animal Cookies Lineage
Animal Cookies, the other parent of Diamond Cookies, is the powerful offspring of Girl Scout Cookies and Fire OG. The pedigree of Girl Scout Cookies is somewhat nebulous, but it is believed to be a three-way cross of Durban Poison, Florida OG, and an undisclosed strain known as “F1.”
Fire OG’s parentage also is somewhat puzzling. This strain is likely an S1 of the original OG Kush; however, some believe it to be a cutting of the original Kush, itself.
Diamond Cookies Feminized Cannabis Seeds
Greenpoint Seeds used the authentic, clone-only cut of Animal Cookies to pollinate the legendary Triangle Kush. The resulting hybrid, Diamond Cookies, offers a range of phenotypes that display the prized traits of both Triangle Kush and Animal Cookies. Some Diamond Cookies plants will closely resemble Triangle Kush, and others will be more Cookies-dominant. Most phenotypes will offer a blend of traits from these two elite cultivars.
Diamond Cookies Aroma
Triangle Kush is prized for its classic aroma. This cultivar offers the typical aroma of OG Kush—pine, fresh soil, gasoline, and lemon—with additional hints of sweet berry and herb. In the jar, Triangle Kush smells of sour lemon, with earthy and floral undertones. When ground up, the buds emit bitter notes of petrol and pine.
Animal Cookies produces a robust bouquet that is exceptionally fragrant. This strain emits an earthy and nutty scent, with notes of cookie dough, petrol, skunk, and mint. When grown properly, this variety also emits notes of cherry, pepper, and pine.
Diamond Cookies offers a blend of aromas from its two terpene-rich parents. Some phenotypes of Diamond Cookies may emit the earthy pine aroma of Triangle Kush. Other phenotypes may take on the sweet-and-sour smells of Animal Cookies. Most plants will display a combination of these delightful aromas.
Diamond Cookies Flavor
Diamond Cookies produces an array of sweet-and-spicy flavors. Some Cookies-dominant phenotypes may offer a sweet-and-sour zest, with undertones of brown sugar, petrol, and skunk. Triangle Kush-dominant phenotypes may taste strongly of wood, fresh soil, gasoline, and pine. Many plants will provide a blend of these mouthwatering flavors.
Diamond Cookies Effects
Medical and recreational users love the powerfully narcotic effects of Triangle Kush. This Indica-dominant cultivar offers a deeply relaxing and euphoric stone that may ease pain and elevate the mood. Triangle Kush delivers a soothing effect that may lull users into a deep sleep. With more than 20 percent THC, Triangle Kush is an exceptionally potent strain.
Animal Cookies also offers a deeply narcotic stone. This variety is reported to possess powerful analgesic properties that may relieve pain and general discomfort in the body. Many users note that Animal Cookies provides a relaxing stone that eases muscle tension and calms the mind.
Like its parents, Diamond Cookies offers a highly narcotic stone that will calm the mind and soothe the body. This potent cultivar is perfect for a quiet evening at home.
Diamond Cookies Structure
Triangle Kush is medium to tall in height, with long, thin branches that have significant internodal spacing. This variety forms highly dense, popcorn-size buds. The forest-green flowers are adorned with orange and amber pistils and milky white trichomes. When exposed to cold temperatures, the leaves of Triangle Kush may display hues of purple and red.
Animal Cookies also is medium to tall in height, with long, skinny branches and small, resin-covered buds. Animal Cookies develops fat, forest-green leaves that, when exposed to cold temperatures, tend to display hues of dark purple. Animal Cookies forms thick, lime-green flowers, with orange hairs and flecks of purple in the sugar leaves. The flowers are small, dense, and generously glazed with trichomes.
Like its parents, Diamond Cookies is medium to tall in height. This strain develops long, lanky branches and small popcorn-size buds. Triangle Kush-dominant phenotypes may be somewhat larger than the other plants, while Animal Cookies-dominant phenotypes may be frostier and more colorful.
Growing Diamond Cookies
Triangle Kush is a moderately easy strain to cultivate but can be challenging for inexperienced growers. Proper training and adequate nutrition are needed to maximize its yield and potency. Triangle Kush grows vigorously and is generally forgiving of fluctuations in temperature. This variety is adaptable and can be cultivated indoors or outdoors; however, it thrives in a warm and dry environment, with ample lighting and a stable pH.
Animal Cookies has earned a reputation for being a tricky cultivar to grow. This variety performs best indoors due to its sensitivity to environmental stressors, including fluctuations in pH and temperature.
Diamond Cookies is a moderately easy strain to grow, and is resilient to many environmental stresses; however, some Animal Cookies-dominant phenotypes may be more sensitive to environmental stresses and nutritional deficits. Diamond Cookies is an adaptable strain and can be grown indoors or outdoors, using a variety of cultivation techniques.
Both Triangle Kush and Animal Cookies stretch significantly during the flowering period. Like its parents, Diamond Cookies often stretches substantially during the early flowering period. Growers may wish to use high-stress or low-stress training methods such as topping, fimming, and super cropping, during the vegetative growth period. This will help to control the stretch and increase the yield of Diamond Cookies.
Pest & Disease Control
Diamond Cookies is resistant to many pests and diseases; however, this strain may be susceptible to powdery mildew infections. Growers can usually avoid powdery mildew infections by regularly cleaning the grow room, offering ample airflow and lighting, and removing excess fan leaves from the plants.
Both Triangle Kush and Animal Cookies require an extra dose of calcium and magnesium. Diamond Cookies also flourishes when provided with fertilizers that are rich in calcium and magnesium. Growers can feed the plants with a bottled cal-mag supplement, or enrich the growing medium with lime, gypsum, and langbeinite.
Harvesting & Curing Diamond Cookies
Most phenotypes of Diamond Cookies will be ready for harvest within 9 to 10 weeks of flowering. Growers can tell if the plants are mature by using a microscope or jeweler’s loupe to inspect the resin glands on the buds. When the resin glands turn milky white, the plants are likely fully ripe and ready for harvest.
If Diamond Cookies is harvested when the resin glands are still clear, it may produce a more uplifting cerebral high. Conversely, if it is harvested when the trichomes have turned amber, Diamond Cookies typically provides a calmer and more sedating stone. Harvesting the plants when they are fully ripe will help to secure a plentiful yield of potent flowers.
When the plants are mostly ripe, growers stop fertilizing them and flush them with plain water. According to many growers, this practice may improve the quality of the buds by breaking down fertilizers and chlorophyll that might be stored in the flowers.
To initiate the harvesting process, growers cut down the colas and strip away the large leaves from the branches. Next, they manicure the buds by trimming away the trichome-covered leaves encompassing the flowers. Manicuring the flowers will improve their bag appeal and make them more flavorful to smoke.
After tidying up the buds, growers dry them by hanging up the branches in a cool, dry area for up to one week. They know that the buds are dry when they become crispy and the branches become brittle.
After drying, the flowers are ready to be cured. Curing helps to enhance the fragrance, flavor, and potency of the buds. To cure them, growers usually place the flowers in airtight glass jars and store them in an area that is cool, dry, and dark. Next, they open, or “burp,” the lids on the jars twice a day for approximately three days. After three days, growers burp the jars once a day for the next two to three weeks. After a few weeks of curing, the flowers are ready to be smoked.
